John A. Braun serves as the Vice President of Washington Operations for Teledyne Brown Engineering. His primary responsibilities include the planning, coordination, and execution of government affairs activities in the Washington D.C. area in support of Teledyne's business and customers. He also serves as the senior executive in Washington, with responsibility for management, facilities, and personnel.
Prior to his current position, John served as Appropriations Associate to Congressman Bud Cramer, a member of the House Committee on Appropriations. In this capacity, he served as Congressman Cramer's principal advisor on appropriations issues. In addition, he also advised the Congressman on issues relating to defense, aerospace, tax, trade, international affairs, small business, labor, federal employees, agriculture, veterans' affairs, and technology.
John also has a long history of working with the U.S. Armed Forces. Prior to his position on the Hill, John served in the Pentagon as a Senior Policy Analyst in the National Security Policy Division of U.S. Air Force Headquarters (1995-1999) and as a Congressional Analyst in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition (1994-1995). In recognition of his service to his country, John was awarded an honorary appointment as a Colonel in the Alabama National Guard by Governor Don Siegelman.
Before moving to the Pentagon, John worked in campaign politics in the State of Alabama, where he worked as a Political Director for several local and state-wide political campaigns, including State Senator Roger Bedford's campaign for Lt. Governor of Alabama (1992-1994).
John is also a former Teledyne Brown employee. In 1992, he worked as an Arms Control Specialist providing policy, programmatic, and technical support to the Office of the U.S. Army Treaty Advisor.
In addition to his work with Teledyne, John serves as Corporate Secretary and member of the board to Research, Analysis, and Engineering (RAE), Inc., a small defense contracting business providing technology solutions to government customers. Besides his work in business and industry, John is also active in many civic and charitable organizations in the Washington area, including membership on the board of the National Aviation Education Council and the Northern Virginia chapter of Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN).
Born on March 9, 1968 in Huntsville, Alabama, John is a 1990 graduate of the Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems, an academic institute at Georgetown University. He received his Bachelor of Arts with honors in Political Science in 1991 from the University of Alabama. In 2001, John earned his law degree from The Catholic University of America School of Law in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in international law.
