Teledyne Brown Engineering Releases New Analysis Software

Teledyne Brown Engineering has released two new software products designed and built to support quick-reaction analysis activities by the military.

The products are JFAS, the Joint Forces Analysis Simulation, and ASESS, the Advanced Subsystem Element and System Simulation. Both are designed for activities in the military research, development and acquisition communities, and both are configured for easy use.

User-friendly attributes such as online help, Web-based output, and comprehensive online tutorials provide the operator with ease of training and operation, as well as drastically reduced turnaround time for analytical efforts. JFAS and ASESS utilize 100-percent object-oriented design architectures programmed in C++ for use on all Microsoft Windows platforms.

"We've designed and built in several features which we believe make these products the best in the field," said Dr. John Regner, division manager, Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis. "We've used commercial graphics packages extensively, and there are self-generating graphical-user interfaces and Web-based features that provide a broad set of input and output options."

JFAS is a quick-reaction combat model designed to analyze force and component performance, along with command and control functions. "This allows the military to easily study and compare details of plans and maneuvers in a low-cost way," Regner said.

JFAS provides a rigorous analysis capability with which to evaluate weapon system performance trades (i.e., use of a tank vehicle as opposed to a helicopter), cost benefits and alternate tactics and strategies. The software is perfect for the analyst who needs quick turnaround for both scenario development and conduct of analysis. The product's low overhead operation provides a convenient basis for accurate and affordable analysis products.

ASESS is an analytical tool and framework designed around reusable model components, such as atmospheric conditions, terrain, and aircraft, all interoperating through a building block architecture.

"Think of it as a Lego set," Regner said. "You can take three different aircraft, a terrain model, and different atmospheric conditions, and compare and evaluate the capabilities of the systems to carry out the mission."

Both JFAS and ASESS are commercially available from Teledyne Brown Engineering, and both have been exported to international customers. Teledyne Brown Engineering offers an online training environment, training classes on the simulations, and an experienced set of developers and analysts to support customer requirements. Evaluation copies of both JFAS and ASESS can be downloaded from the company's Web site at (www.tbe.com). Information on how to contact JFAS and ASESS specialists can also be found on the Web site.
