Jan Hess is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and has held that position since 2007. In this dual role, she is the second highest ranking officer of the Engineered Systems segment of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated.

She has both operational and administrative responsibility for Teledyne Brown, including establishing financial strategies for the segment. Hess also sets the standards for workplace values, integrity, and ethical business practices throughout the company. When she joined the company in 2000, Hess served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. She is credited with revamping Teledyne Brown’s business processes into a total quality, best practices model and creating a culture focused on continual improvement.

Prior to joining Teledyne Brown, Hess was Vice President of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer for Intergraph Computer Systems, a Division of Intergraph Corporation, Huntsville, Alabama. Responsible for the financial operations of this $250-million hardware division, Hess served on the executive management team that restructured the division, creating a successful exit strategy for the company’s hardware operations. In this position, she was also involved in mergers and acquisitions.

From 1984 to 1998, Hess held various management positions with Intergraph, including Executive Manager and Assistant Controller. She managed the company’s external financial reporting and analysis function, including all Securities and Exchange Commission reporting and worldwide compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. In her early career with Intergraph, Hess managed the International Financial Analysis organization, with over 30 international operations, and participated in various overseas assignments.

From 1981 to 1983, Hess served on the audit staff of Price Waterhouse in Birmingham, Alabama.

At Auburn University, Hess majored in accounting, earning a B.S. in Business Administration degree with Honors. She also holds a Certificate in Management from Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, and she is a Certified Public Accountant in Alabama (inactive).
Hess is very active in the Huntsville community.  She is a public speaker to groups and organizations on the topics of corporate finance practices and successful business strategies, an advocate for children with learning challenges and a community volunteer.  She serves on for-profit and nonprofit boards of directors.  She has been honored by various organizations for her leadership in business and the community. Hess is also a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County and a member of its Alumni Association.
