Sustainment and Obsolescence

Obsolescence studies are an integrated part of the system requirements development process. The Teledyne Team focuses on and plans for reliability improvements, continuous modernization, and Diminishing Manufacturing Source and Material Shortages (DMSMS) solutions throughout the duration of the product lifecycle. Toward this end, DMSMS meta-data is available at the highest level of visibility as part of the TLC server collaborative environment.
Associating DMSMS information to the PowerLOG-J data model provides the customer and contractor with the same information in real time. In essence, an evolutionary acquisition plan is enacted that spans both engineering and logistics efforts. Methods to be employed are early identification through shared databases; the use of predictive tools; life of type buys, where applicable; deficiency reporting; Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs); and drawing availability. All of these elements support technology insertion, continuous modernization, open systems architecture, redesign, modifications, and Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) decisions.
