Former NASA Top Engineer Joins Teledyne Brown

Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced today that Dr. Paul Munafo, the former Chief Engineer at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, has joined the company as Vice President and Chief Engineer. In his role, Dr. Munafo will be responsible for setting engineering standards and engineering excellence. “We are very pleased to have someone with Paul’s experience and credentials join our team,” said Rex D. Geveden, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering. “His appointment is essential to our success as we expand into new markets and grow our core engineering and manufacturing businesses.” During Dr. Munafo’s distinguished career at NASA, he had numerous exceptional achievements, including serving as the Independent Technical Authority for Space Propulsion during the Space Shuttle return-to-flight activities and leading NASA’s investigation of the Space Shuttle’s External Tank after the Columbia tragedy. Prior to joining NASA, Dr. Munafo served as lead engineer on the Saturn Program, specializing in prevention of premature structural failure. He is also known nationally and internationally for his expertise in failure analysis. Dr. Munafo has been widely honored throughout his career. He has been named an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Fellow and an ASM, International Fellow. Dr. Munafo received NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal in 2005 and the previous year was named National Engineer of the Year by AIAA and Astronautics Engineer of the Year by the National Space Club. While at NASA, he also received the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive, the NASA Medal for Outstanding Leadership, and was a three-time winner of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. Dr. Munafo holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering and material science from Auburn University, an MS in mechanical engineering from Tulane University, and a BS in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Ginger, live in Huntsville and have three children.
