HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 19, 2006) — Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced that five NASA Silver Snoopy awards, the astronauts’ personal award for professional excellence, were presented during a recent ceremony at the main headquarters here.

NASA astronaut Donald Thomas presented a silver Snoopy lapel pin that had flown on a Space Shuttle mission, a certificate of appreciation and commendation letter to the winners: Teri Mears, Brian Evans, Joel Cotton, Gary Cartee and Becky Grimaldi. The award is given out to less than one percent of the space program’s workforce.

Mears, a senior member of the Teledyne Brown Engineering Space Station Planning & Operations Team, was nominated for the Silver Snoopy Award because of her sustained outstanding performance supporting the NASA Manned Spaceflight Programs over the past 20 years. She successfully performed Pointing & Stabilization Analysis, Orbital Analysis and Timeline Engineering tasks on the successful Spacelab programs and her technical knowledge, initiative and leadership were instrumental to the success of the many Payload Investigations.

Evans, a 25-year veteran of NASA Space Programs, has performed as a thermal/fluids analyst and as a group lead. He currently supports the In-Situ Fabrication and Repair tasks for Exploration Systems Engineering technology developments and is the Lead Engineer for Recycling Technologies and supports the Lunar and Mars Exploration Systems Programs. Evans has also supported the International Space Station.

As a thermal analyst on NASA programs for over 23 years, Cotton has demonstrated sustained excellence in managing, preparing and executing thermal analyses. His analytical skills have been instrumental in the success of the Space Lab Mission, Integration for the Shuttle Missions, and Utilization and Logistic Flight Missions. The Mission Management Team singled out Cotton as a “key performer” for his effort in support of the Spacelab Missions.

Cartee was selected for the manner in which he performed preparing and executing payload training and crew flight products for the International Space Station. The payload cadre, including contractors and government personnel and Payload Developers, noted his outstanding performance and capabilities. He is also a critical member of the Payload Training Team and contributed to the team’s successful completion of its current training.

Grimaldi has worked on NASA Manned Spaceflight Programs for 15 years. On the Spacelab Program, she successfully performed Orbital Analysis and Timeline Engineering tasks on several very successful Spacelab programs. She is a top performer on the International Space Station Program and is certified to perform both the Payload Planning Manager and Timeline Change Cadre positions.

“This is a great honor for Teledyne Brown and these five awardees,” said James M. Link, president, Teledyne Brown. “They have consistently demonstrated outstanding skill and dedication to our nation’s space program. This recognition is well-deserved and on behalf of all of Teledyne Brown, I congratulate these individuals for their achievement.”

The Silver Snoopy is a Space Flight Awareness (SFA) award and symbolizes the intent and spirit of SFA.
