Ballistic Protection
Teledyne Brown Engineering has considerable experience in the engineering design, test, and evaluation of ballistic protection. We have dealt with such varied projects as armor development for ground combat vehicles, missile intercept and defeat, and protection of personnel from small arms.
- Our expertise centers on designing for terminal protection,
providing the related conceptual modeling and production specifications. We have experience with CTH and other hydrocode tools.
- We have worked with passive metallic, ceramic, and composite
materials, as well as reactive armor technologies. We also coordinate direct testing services related to ballistic protection.
- An in-house Multipurpose Threat Survivability Range (MTSR) is
available for impact testing, handling projectiles from small caliber through 12.5 mm as well as conical and linear shaped-charge explosives.
- Our engineers, scientists, and computer analysts have handled all
types of ballistic threats, ranging from tiny, hypervelocity particles intercepting orbiting systems to munitions designed to defeat heavily armored land vehicles.
Teledyne Brown is involved in the design of mountable structures for ballistic protection of standard military vehicles. Under a DARPA contract, we have also provided the design and concept testing of a wearable armor based on a new concept in reactive technology.
