Mobile Detonation Chamber System
The Mobile Detonation Chamber System from Teledyne Brown Engineering is a
transportable, stand-alone facility designed for sustaining repeated
detonations of explosives.
- Major components are the detonation chamber, mounted on a trailer,
and the ventilation/filtration subsystem, mounted on a skid. The system is
transportable by road, rail, or shipboard.
- The rear deck of the trailer serves as the platform for a loading
crane, and the front deck contains interfaces for electrical power, the
vent connections, and detonation control.
- The chamber is constructed with double walls and redundant doors. It
is designed for detonation containment of up to 19.5 pounds (8.8 kg) of
TNT-equivalent explosives.
- With a designed service life of seven years, it fully contains the
shock wave, heat, blast, pressure, shrapnel, gas, vapor, and dust
generated during detonation.
The system was originally developed by Brown Engineering for the U.S. Army
Product Manager for Non-Stockpile Chemical Materiel for use in support of
chemical weapon demilitarization processes. Although intended for
destruction of chemical projectiles from which the agent has been removed,
it might be used for a wide range of explosive devices.
