Teledyne Brown Engineering Awarded $476M NASA Contract for Advanced Earth Observation Services

9/26/2024

Huntsville, Ala. –September 26, 2024 – Teledyne Brown Engineering has been selected to provide Earth observation data and related services to NASA.  This indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple-award contract has a cumulative maximum value of $476 million.  This contract supports NASA's Earth science research and applications activities by providing cost-effective observation data from commercial sources.

Teledyne's solution will include its International Space Station (ISS)-based Multi-User System for Earth Sensing (MUSES). MUSES is a precision-pointing platform for earth-viewing instruments, such as high-resolution digital cameras and hyperspectral imagers. MUSES can accommodate four payloads simultaneously and the ISS can robotically change, upgrade, and service those instruments.

“We are proud to be supporting NASA's efforts to observe and improve the planet for the benefit of its inhabitants and future.  Our platform can provide a host of solutions to include ocean observation, agriculture, forestry, and disaster assessments.  By providing current and past imagery we supply data and resources for multiple applications," stated Scott Hall, President of Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Currently, MUSES hosts the German Aerospace Center's (DLR) Earth Sensing Imaging Spectrometer (DESIS) a hyperspectral imager developed in collaboration with Teledyne, with 235 bands spaced at 2.55nm in the visible through near-infrared spectral region.
