Teledyne Presents Subsea Power, Ship Husbandry and Mine Seeking Solutions at ANTX 2018

9/26/2018

HUNTSVILLE, AL-September 26, 2018- Teledyne Brown Engineering with sister companies Teledyne Energy Systems, Teledyne Reson and Teledyne SeaBotix, displayed multiple subsea solutions during the 2018 Advanced Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Newport, Rhode Island.

“Our ability to address complex issues and systems has allowed us to create several demonstrations of new technology and applications to showcase at ANTX this year,” stated Jan Hess, Teledyne Brown Engineering and Teledyne Engineered Systems Segment President. “This event has been a huge success for Teledyne. We were able to effectively display our capabilities to design, build and integrate systems and solutions across multiple domains and platforms,”

Teledyne Energy Systems displayed their scalable power system that can be used to support multiple platforms or vehicles in remote underwater locations. The Teledyne Subsea Power Node, a fuel cell-based power system developed to enable low-cost large-scale energy storage, was used to power a SeaBotix ROV during a ship husbandry demonstration. During this demonstration, the Teledyne Subsea Power Node was able to fuel and perform a dockside deployment, recovery, and redeployment activity.  The system delivered greater than 3.5 kW of power during operation and met each of its performance objectives during its first public demonstration.

Not only did the company promote its power generation capabilities, but this exercise also emphasized the need and benefits for surface ships to carry an ROV aboard for hull inspection,   loss of equipment and rescue efforts.  This solution could save the Navy significant costs by eliminating down time and the need to return to port and deploy dive teams.

Teledyne Brown Engineering and partnering company IDRobotica also demonstrated the capabilities of the Pluto Plus mine seeking and destroying vehicle. This system has the ability to maneuver autonomously or remotely operate, and can locate, identify and destroy targets.
