Teledyne Brown Engineering holds four Certificates of Authorization issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME): the N, NPT, NS, and U. We also maintain an R Certificate of Authorization from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessels, allowing us the ability to perform repairs on previously built pressure vessels.

These sanction TBE to design and manufacture nuclear vessels, piping systems, tanks, storage systems, core support structures, assemblies, and pressure vessels. We are also a Certified Material Organization that provides clients with the ability to utilize unqualified source material to help control the procurement costs associated with nuclear safety-related materials.

To receive and maintain these Stamps and Certificates, we must meet and maintain rigorous design control, quality assurance, and manufacturing standards and successfully complete an extensive, on-site audit and demonstration performed by ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel representatives evey 3 years.

We also have the capability to design and manufacture prototypes and one-of-a-kind productions. An example of such work was when Teledyne Brown engineered and manufactured accessory skids for a prototype Gas Turbine Backup Generator System for use in nuclear power plants. The components included two 2,000-gallon air receivers (500-psig working pressure), 1,250-gallon fuel oil day tank and skid, and two air start skid assemblies to provide startup air to the turbine. The system was designed, manufactured, tested, and stamped per ASME Section III.

As part of the effort, TBE used its ASME Material Organization Authorization to procure unqualified ASME source material and “upgrade” it to ASME code material. This process, which in many ways is similar to a commercial grade dedication process, involved conducting chemical and physical tests on each piece of material to be upgraded. TBE-certified inspection personnel then evaluated the chemical and physical data against the original Certified Material Test Report data and the ASME Material Specification for consistency and compliance before accepting and upgrading the material for use in the hardware.
