As President of the Engineered Systems Segment (ESS) of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, Hess is responsible for Teledyne Energy Systems, Teledyne Turbine Engines, Teledyne Advanced Electronic Solutions, and Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Hess has full responsibility for establishing the ESS strategic positioning, growth, and profitability and its 1,400 employees. Serving aerospace, defense, maritime, and energy markets, ESS designs, develops and delivers a diverse array of advanced technology-driven solutions, systems, products, and services for complex and harsh environments.

The ESS portfolio of project-based business is driven by the highest quality standards, mission critical and/or human-rated. The business portfolio is comprised of high fidelity modeling and simulation software for missile defense and medical logistics planning; manned and unmanned deep sea vehicles; hardware for space applications, including a major stage of the Space Launch System; operation of the International Space Station’s Mission Operations and Integration function; small gas turbine engines for cruise missiles; radioisotope thermal electric long duration power systems operating from deep sea to deep space; specialized fuel cells and batteries; nuclear and chemical processing systems; and advanced manufacturing.

Ms. Hess brings over three decades of operational, financial and leadership experience to leverage Teledyne’s broad capabilities. She is committed to performance excellence and has created an innovative and solutions-based culture, fostering continuous improvement. Hess believes in setting the bar high for herself and her team. She also believes that a healthy environment is key to company and employee growth.

Prior to Hess’s latest position, she served as the ESS second-in-command as its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. During that time, she also served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Teledyne Scientific and Imaging. Hess joined Teledyne Brown Engineering in 2000, serving as its Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Her experience immediately prior to Teledyne included broad operational and financial experience with a multinational company, including acquisitions and divestitures, responsibility for all Securities and Exchange Commission reporting, and worldwide financial compliance and analysis. Early in her career, she worked for Price Waterhouse Cooper.

Born in Huntsville, Alabama, Hess earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University. She holds a Certificate in Management from the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business, as well as a professional designation in Advanced Government Contracting. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Alabama (inactive) and a graduate of Leadership Alabama. Hess has been honored by various organizations for her leadership in business and the community. She was selected as an inaugural recipient of the 2018 Yellowhammer Women of Impact award, a recognition bestowed upon 20 women whose powerful contributions advance and shape the State of Alabama. She is a public speaker on topics of successful business strategies, financial and professional growth. Hess is committed to supporting and strengthening our business community.

Hess is married to Grantt Childress. The two have an adult son. She has eight siblings and believes that growing up in a large family taught her teamwork, discipline, and the value of hard work. ​​​​​​​
